Review of LMU diversity initiatives

FamilyCare@LMU (2025)

By recognizing the diverse family structures of our students and staff and providing targeted support for their varying needs, we create an environment where everyone—regardless of background, lifestyle, or family responsibilities—can reach their full potential. Family-friendly structures such as flexible work hours, childcare options, and counseling services actively contribute to promoting diversity.

As part of the FamilyCare@LMU diversity initiative, we will continue our commitment in 2025 to strengthen an inclusive and diverse community at LMU.

In doing so, we are building on the successful WeCare@LMU and Belonging@LMU programs, which are already making a significant contribution to promoting the health and well-being of our members and strengthening the sense of community within the LMU community.

Belonging@LMU (2024)

In the 2024 academic year, the new Diversity Initiative built on the existing motto “Together@LMU” and actively focused on equal participation.

LMU is committed to fostering an enriching environment in which all members, regardless of their backgrounds, experience equal opportunities, recognition, and appreciation. LMU therefore promotes an inclusive, welcoming environment that is open to individual needs and experiences for researchers, students, and staff.

The Belonging@LMU initiative is particularly dedicated to raising awareness of the university’s numerous activities and developing new support measures to foster greater inclusion and participation within the LMU community.

Together@LMU (2023)

As a university, LMU is committed to creating an environment where all members of the university community feel welcome. An inclusive community in which everyone is respected and valued fosters collaboration, helps individuals reach their full potential, and creates a more productive work and learning environment.

As part of the Diversity Initiative 2023, numerous events were held that brought the LMU community together. The events encouraged a shift in perspective and provided a space for the diverse life paths and lifestyles of all members of the university.

Diversity4Research@LMU (2022)

For the seventh time, LMU—at the initiative of the Vice President for International Affairs and Diversity and the Central Diversity Management Office—participated in the nationwide Diversity Day of the Diversity Charta with a wide range of events.

Under the motto “Diversity4Research,” various LMU faculties and research institutions organized interactive and creative events, activities, and lectures that highlighted the relevance of gender and diversity issues in research. The events were open to all university members and interested external parties. In addition to the digital offerings, many events of the Diversity Initiative 2022 were held in person on the LMU campus.

WeCare@LMU (2021)

WeCare@LMU was launched by Prof. Francesca Biagini, Vice President for International Affairs and Diversity. Her primary goal was to create a platform that supports students and university staff in coping with difficult life situations and crises.

WeCare@LMU thus offers a resource center for comprehensive measures to promote psychosocial well-being, as well as an open and confidential space for conversation, counseling, and support in all areas of life. Particular emphasis is placed on close collaboration with other university departments to ensure comprehensive support for LMU students and staff.
